Mediocre customer service and inept account management

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Water was shut off on 8/4/2025 after 5 months of paid service.
  • - Email used previous owner's name; reestablishment fee; ownership/ID must be resubmitted.

3/5/2025 I began Epcor water service after purchase of my home, bills are paid up to date. On 8/4/2025 water shut off, customer service reported someone emailed to turn off service.

The name provided was the name of the previous homeowner.

After 5 months of my paying and having an active account they turned off my water and I am being charged a reestablishment fee. I had to again send proof of home ownership and ID again after providing it in March when I began service.

This company provides mediocre customer service reps who are provided inept account management systems.

Beware ANYONE can email and have your water turned off apparently. Sincerely, poorly treated paying customer who has no water.

Charging for water usage that never happened

  • - Issue ongoing since Nov with high bill and extra charges.
  • - Dec bill claimed 100,000+ gallons.
  • - Foreman said meter can fail and should be replaced.
EPCOR - Charging for water usage that never happened

Issue has been ongoing since Nov. We received an abnormally high bill with extra charges added.

In Dec, received another bill that claimed our water usage for the month was in excess of 100,000 gallons, & the largest bill we've ever received.

Reached out to EPCOR starting back in December & it has just

been ongoing. They had someone look at the meter

back in December and they claimed there was nothing wrong with it.

We received a disconnect notice & so we were concerned since we

could not observe any signs of a leak inside or around our property. We hired a plumber to inspect our property and found no issues.

We presented all of this information to EPCOR & they put is in

contact with the water conservation team.

This led to additional back and forth as its very difficult to get in touch with this team since they have no direct contact. Finally, we were able to have a foreman from the local office come out to our house, look at our property/meter, and talk to us directly.

He told us that the meter in the ground is known to fail. He said that the meter would report usage incorrectly & would go back and recommend that the meter be replaced, which never happened. Several weeks later, we received a phone call from EPCOR to make payment.

Decided to reach out to the ACC & suddenly the needle started moving again. We've attached the original complaint which has additional information.

Received an e-mail from EPCOR on behalf of the ACC which listed the next steps. We received a phone call from EPCOR directly. Again, they are unwilling to take ownership of their failing meter.

The "supervisor" & EPCOR are still claiming that we used more than 100,000 gallons

of water in a 30 day span.

This is a very abbreviated capture of the events. We're at a

loss since the company refuses to take ownership of their failing

equipment despite having an employee tell us directly that the meters in the ground are prone to have this issue, we're being told its our responsibility.

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Hope your meter doesn't fail

Disconnected without notice! Bill paid 2 weeks prior

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Online payment was accepted, but power was cut June 13; EPCOR said payment was rejected and later reversed, leaving me out $1,302 without notice.

I paid my bill 2 weeks ago, and it was accepted online. Without notice, on June 13th at 8 a.m.

on a Friday, the power just went off. I called EPCOR; they said the payment was rejected and to call my bank. I told them I can see the money is not in my account, and they said to call my bank and that I need to pay in full if I want services. I called my bank, and they said they had no idea what's going on and it could take them up to 10 business days to investigate.

Then I called the utility advocate, and they tried to speak to EPCOR, but they still wouldn't budge. Then I called them again, and this time they said the payment has been reversed and to call my bank. I told them if it was reversed, why not call me to let me know? Why did they just turn off services?

They said it is my responsibility to know if payments are reversed, and I told them I still am out the money and the bank has no idea what they are talking about and they did not care. I have a child who needs a breathing machine at night and also bought $450 worth of groceries on the 12th. If I knew any issue had supposedly happened, I would have fixed it prior! Now I had to send my kids away to their dad's for the weekend, and my groceries are spoiled!

I live in Civida housing and can be evicted if my power is cut off! I'm a low-income domestic violence survivor and had to send my kids to my abuser. Shame on EPCOR! 2 weeks, and they couldn't call or email me to tell me they had a problem; they just disconnected!

I don't think it's legal!

The greed in this country is insane! Now I'm already out the $852 for the power and $450 for groceries; I have no money left until the 20th!

Website doesn't work

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Voicemail directs to the EPCOR account page.
  • - The details page won’t load and shows an activity icon.
  • - It affects account info, bills, and sites.

Trying to get information about my account, the after-hours voicemail says to log in to your EPCOR account web page. I log into my account and the details page doesn't load and just shows an activity icon, but the page never refreshes.

This includes account info, bills, and sites. The whole customer account site is crap. Another corporate entity that has a management team that has no idea what is happening in the trenches with their customers, but then again they don't care.

If they lose a few hundred, meh... new accounts are coming online all the time.

Pros:
  • I give up
  • You tell me
Cons:
  • You are only a number
  • Consequences to you dont matter

Preferred solution: I don't expect anything. Epcor doesn't care. They will say whatever they need to say and then do nothing.

User's recommendation: What can I say... Corporations treat customers like crap because they can.

  • - I bought a home; the previous owner owed a water bill.
  • - A rep said paperwork would turn on service, but the office says the owner must pay.

This is what happened: I bought a home from a friend, and he owed a water bill. It hasn't been on for months.

Anyway, I called for them to put it on. A very sweet woman said to send paperwork that I purchased the home, and then they will turn it on. I said thank you and hung up. The next day, I get a call from the company over here.

I got the home, and the lady was saying that I have to call the last owners and have them pay the bill. Why? When that's his responsibility, not mine or ours. They gave me a new account, and it's going to be put on.

Why are you stopping me from having water? It's not like the company says no; the last owner has to pay his bill. Mind you, they already said they will put it on for me. The lady at this local office is saying I'm not going to turn on her water until the last owner pays the bill.

Why is she so angry at the previous owner? This sounds very personal to me, because I talked to him. He said the water hasn't been on in months, and the bill is in collections. He made payment arrangements, so what's the problem?

She wants him to pay them when the bill is in collections already, and he's making payments. Why is she acting like this?

She refuses to put my water on; that's just crazy to me. There's no lien on the house at all.

  • - EPCOR called my landline at 1:30 am and 2:44 am to remind us to pay during the Canada Post strike.

Updated by user Dec 29, 2024

It has been difficult to contact the company during the holidays as I have to do during business hours.

Original review Dec 21, 2024

EPCOR called my landline from its toll free number at 1:30 am and again at 2:44 am to remind ( harass) us to pay our bill because of the Canada post strike. Of course when I tried to call them back all thier offices were closed and they were asleep in their beds. The is no way to treat seniors and loyal customers who pay their bills on time .

The bill is inaccurate

AI Highlights
  • - I took possession of the house on October 29.
  • - A clerical error set the beginning charge date to October 9, making the bill inaccurate.

I took possession of the house on October 29th. However, there was a clerical error, and the beginning charge date was set to October 9th. So, the bill is inaccurate for the actual time that I have had ownership of the house and the power that I have used.

Comment about my phone call.

AI Highlights
  • - No phone number to call for my account balance.
  • - I paid a balance that should cover it.
  • - 'Pissed' seems unprofessional; 'upset customer' suggested.

I was calling for my account balance! Since there was no phone number to call I just paid a balance that should cover it.

I will not be talking to a company so unprofessional that uses the word pissed. How about upset customer or something similar?

Season disconnect

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - The rep would pull wires, pull the meter and disconnect.
  • - Stopping payment triggers a meter pull in 10 min.
  • - Time to go solar and control my power.

The service rep informed me they would have to pull wires back , pull the meter and do a full disconnect .

Seems like a lot of additional nonsense . If you stop paying your bill they pull your meter . Takes about 10 min.

At the end of the day you have to pay for transmission and distribution fees if you use zero or lots of power .

Time to go solar and control my own power .
